EBSCO Publishing is pleased to announce the release of index browsing on EBSCOhost® . Index browsing gives users the option to search from specific indexes in EBSCOhost databases from a drop-down menu of indexed fields. Once an indexed field is selected, users can browse an alphabetical list of terms in each indexed field or browse for a specific term within the chosen field. The number of times each term appears in that field in the database is also displayed. From this point, researchers can build a search by selecting one or more terms from the index and choosing the desired Boolean operator for multiple terms. Clicking 'Add' moves search terms into the search display box. Additionally, single searches can be constructed from multiple indexes. Once a set of search terms has been added to the search display box, the user can choose another index field to browse for additional terms. When the search query is complete, the user clicks 'Search' to retrieve a list of relevant results. Users will find this functionality on a new toolbar button labeled 'Indexes' on the Advanced Search screen; via EBSCOadmin™, index browsing can be configured to appear on the Basic Search screen as well. The index fields are database specific, but common indexes include Author, Publisher, Journal, and Subject. This feature is available in selected EBSCO proprietary databases including Academic Search™ Premier and Business Source® Premier, as well as several popular secondary databases including CINAHL®, PsycINFO®, ERIC®, MEDLINE®, EconLit, Inspec® and SPORTDiscus, among others.
