EBSCO Publishing Acquires DynaMed
EBSCO Further Enhances Position as Top Provider of Medical Information

IPSWICH, Mass. — July 20, 2005 — Continuing to expand its presence in the medical arena, EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) is pleased to announce the acquisition of DynaMed, a high-quality, evidence-based clinical reference tool developed by a physician.  Offered through DynaMed LLC (now an EBSCO subsidiary), DynaMed is designed primarily for use at the point-of-care.

DynaMed provides clinically-organized full text summaries for more than 1,800 topics.  A simple yet powerful topically-driven menu allows physicians, medical students and other health care professionals to research high-end synthesized information from respected publications, associations and contributing clinicians.  DynaMed monitors the content of over 400 medical journals directly and indirectly by using numerous journal review services. Each publication is reviewed cover-to-cover, including letters to the editor, features covering articles from other publications, etc. Summaries can be viewed in an alphabetical listing or searched by categoryfor quick and effective research.  The system also allows users to view the most recent updates, post comments for review, access patient-oriented information, and more.

According to the DynaMed founder, Editor-in-Chief and family physician, Brian S. Alper MD, MSPH, “DynaMed is maintained with a reverence for Evidence-Based Medicine and a practical sense for the needs of clinicians at the point of care.  We have successfully incorporated a mechanism that allows users of the database to help keep the information useful, accurate and up-to-date.”  He added, “Being part of the EBSCO family will enable the resources to bring DynaMed to the next level, making it indispensable for practicing clinicians, hospitals, and medical schools and other health care professional training sites.”

“We are excited to have Dr. Alper as part of our staff, and to be able to provide DynaMed as a unique, compelling part of EBSCO’s growing suite of medical products and services,” commented Mark Herrick, Vice President of Business Development for EBSCO Publishing.  “We see a bright future in providing medical reference products and services to care-givers, patients and those studying to embark upon a medical career.”
